Wokingham has had a Sports Council for over 40 years with members representing a good cross section of sports in the Borough.
The Constitution, briefly summarised, aims to co-ordinate, promote and develop opportunities and facilities for Sport in the Borough of Wokingham.With a membership open to all local sporting bodies, schools, local government, sports centres and other national sporting bodies and councils, we aim to act as a focal point for concerns and queries about sport in the present and the future.
The Sports Council currently offers:
- courses in child protection and first aid in conjunction with WBC Sports Development;
- sport sponsorship for individuals under 18
- a new coaching initiative
- representation at the local strategic partnership dealing with health and well being
- our Annual Sports Awards
- schools football tournament.
With our interface to local government the Sports Council is well placed to offer help and lobbying on sports-related matters.
